Discover Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar

Mount Kailash Asthapad

Located in the remote Ngari region of western Tibet, Mount Kailash stands approximately 6,638 metres above sea level. Unlike many of the world's highest mountains, Kailash remains unclimbed, preserving its extraordinary spiritual significance. For Hindus, Mount Kailash is believed to be the eternal abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Buddhists associate it with Demchok, while Jains and followers of the Bon tradition also consider the mountain deeply sacred.

A short distance from the mountain lies Lake Manasarovar, situated at approximately 4,590 metres. Its clear waters and breathtaking surroundings have made it one of the most revered pilgrimage destinations in the Himalayan region. For centuries, pilgrims have travelled across challenging terrain to reach these sacred sites. The journey represents devotion, perseverance and the desire for spiritual fulfilment. The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra brings together these experiences in a single extraordinary expedition.

Best time to visit Mount Kailash in 2027

The main Kailash Manasarovar pilgrimage season generally runs from mid-May to September. During these months, weather and road conditions are generally more favourable for travelling through western Tibet and undertaking the Parikrama.

  • May–June: Beginning of the pilgrimage season, with changing mountain conditions.

  • July–August: Popular travel months, with relatively warmer daytime conditions.

  • September: A quieter part of the season, with autumn scenery and colder temperatures.

Physical preparation and high-altitude safety

The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is a high-altitude pilgrimage, not an ordinary sightseeing holiday. The Parikrama reaches approximately 5,630 metres at Dolma La Pass. At this elevation, reduced oxygen availability can affect travellers regardless of their age or physical fitness.

Before undertaking the journey, travellers should:

  1. Begin regular walking and cardiovascular exercises several weeks before departure.
  2. Build endurance through gradual uphill walks and hikes.
  3. Consult a qualified medical professional before travelling.
  4. Inform the tour operator about relevant medical concerns.
  5. Follow the planned acclimatisation schedule.
  6. Carry prescribed personal medication and suitable cold-weather clothing.
  7. Understand the symptoms of altitude sickness and seek immediate medical attention when necessary.

Our team arranges essential first-aid and emergency oxygen provisions as specified in the selected package. These arrangements do not replace professional medical treatment or emergency evacuation insurance.
